Paranormal Activity 2007 Rating:

I’m on the fence about this one. For an independent film it’s very well done, and was supposedly filmed on a very small budget. The main problem I have it, is that it’s not breaking any new ground. It’s sort of a best of compilation of various films. It uses the same basic premise as the Blair Witch Project, with the whole “found footage†scenario. And has very obvious influences from everything from the exorcist, right on down to The Ring and all the films it’s spawned. The story centers around a young, for some reason quite affluent couple who are plagued by a series of paranormal events that are tied to the young woman Katie. So on they decide to buy a studio grade video camera to attempt to catch some of the activity on film, which in turn makes the events progress even more. The film is well done, but not really that well thought out. There are numerous creepy sequences caught on film, and there are a couple that will actually leave you wondering how they did it. They also use the subliminal sound tracking like the exorcist to make the creepy scenes more effective. If you can get past the thin story you might actually enjoy this film. It is well acted, and does have some creepy moments, but it’s not really pushing to envelope very much. Also, the end is very cliché, and probably the most disappointing ending I’ve seen in a long time. The alternate ending is actually much better in my opinion.
If you’re a fan of stuff like the Blair Witch Project, then this is right up your alley and far better too. Just don’t expect to be blown away.

Ok so guy likes girl, moves in with girl. Girl neglects to tell guy about demon that has a thing for her. Guy challenges said demon and tries to get it on tape. Demon is a trickster and likes to mess with them while sleeping. This is pretty much the whole movie. Said guy should have left said girl but, I guess that would make for a boring movie. It did have a few scare moments and being a girl I totally jumped each time. The sounds draw you in and you are glued to the TV waiting to see something happen. But over all not very scary. I did want to punch the guy for being an ass and the girl for pronouncing his name wrong. (Look at the spelling of his name in the credits and tell me how you pronounce it.) Over all not great, but better than some of the other movies who have tried the hand held video camera route. No snot dripping on the camera like in Blair Witch and it doesn’t make you queasy like Cloverfield. Must say ending was a complete let down but the alternate ending was more to my liking. I think it may have done better in the Theaters if they would have used the other ending.

Agreed. It sucked! I wish’d I could get my money back from theater when I saw it.
