Sly’s Reviews and Interviews – The Barbarellatones
The Barbarellatones -Invasion of the Surfabilly Zombies
The Barbarellatones have a sound that is called horror surf rock. The name is pretty self explanitory. The basics of surf music are all there with the addition of sound effects that belong in a cheezy old horror flick. Along with lyrics that tell stories of surfabilly zombies, horny monsters and all sorts of hysterical ghouls, there is a very comical feel to the album. I was literally laughing most of the way through spinning this one. Most of the songs have a decent beat and good rhythm, but there is something missing. I really enjoyed a few songs, but overall the cd is worth listening to for the shits and giggles. This release shows a lot of potential for the band. If you like the Alley Dukes, and the Klingonz you may enjoy Invasion of the Surabilly Zombies.
